What Is KYC in Crypto and Why Do Platforms Require It?
KYC (know your customer) explained: what you submit, why crypto platforms ask for it and how your data should be handled.
What KYC means
KYC stands for know your customer. It is the process of confirming who you are, usually by checking your name, date of birth, a government ID and sometimes a selfie.
Why platforms require it
Regulators and banking partners expect platforms to prevent fraud, money laundering and sanctions evasion. Without verification, a platform would struggle to keep accounts and payments safe.
What to expect
You enter your details, upload photos of your ID and a face photo, and wait for a review. Approval can take from minutes to a few days. Use clear, uncropped photos of a valid document.
Protecting your data
Only submit documents inside the official app or site. Ask how your data is used and stored. Never send ID photos to someone who contacts you first, since that is a common scam.
