Crypto Risk Management for Beginners

Simple rules for managing risk when trading crypto: position size, stop losses, and diversification.

Decide your risk before you trade

Many traders risk only 1 to 2 percent of their trading capital on any single trade. Decide this in advance so one bad trade cannot cause serious damage.

Use stop-loss orders

A stop-loss closes a position automatically at a price you choose. It limits the loss on a trade, although in fast markets the fill price can be worse than the stop price.

Do not put everything in one asset

Spreading funds across different assets reduces the impact of any single failure. Remember that most cryptocurrencies tend to move together in a major market downturn.

Protect your mindset

Avoid revenge trading after a loss, avoid borrowing money to trade, and step away when emotional. Keep a record of your trades and learn from them.
